Moscow-based post-grunge / alternative rock band Remark has recently released their second EP, “Keep Running.” (review here). In a brand new interview for Rocking Charts, they told us about working on this release, the title, current alternative scene, and more.
Hey guys. How are you doing?
Great! We have recently released our new EP and now we are preparing the release of new videos, so we move forward.
You have just launched your new, second EP titled “Keep Running.” How do you feel about the release?
We, oddly enough, have not the feelings of full satisfaction. Much work still needed to be done and it will convey our music and new EP to potential fans. Musically, we are satisfied with the release, our ideas and songs.
What does the title of the EP refer to?
This name reflects our inner feelings. Even when it is difficult we continue to work and compose new songs and, of course, keep on having fun. For this thanks to our fans, they motivate us!
How much of a challenge was to work on these songs, especially considering that the two of them are covers?
First of all, it should be noted that for us it’s not a work, it’s our inspiration. We do not count the amount of efforts, we are simply enjoying. Sometimes, composing takes all our thoughts. We have been playing live versions of this covers for a long time, so we decided to record and release it. It’s just our version of these songs in our style.
What is your opinion about the current alternative rock scene?
Unfortunately, the opinion about modern alternative music is just that a lot of cool bands are not heard by a vast audience, while some have too great popular.
Can you tell me something about your influences?
Oddly enough, we listen different music and we like different bands. The sound of REMARK is sum of our ideas and thoughts. All in all, I think there are the grunge bands of the 90s and post grunge bands of the 2000s mixed up with our desires and strangeness, which poured to this EP.
What are you listening to these days?
The last bands were Nothing but Thieves and Nothing More. They are cool, they have their own unique ideas and sound, we appreciate this approach.
Your 5 favourite records of all the time?
This is complicated question. Each of us have their own favorites. We love different music and only 5 albums are too short list. Nowadays recognizable hits as much as deep hits, but it is not mean that deep hits are less great.
Can you tell me a little bit more about the gear you use to record songs on “Keep Running”?
Firstly, we wanted to achieve the most honest sound – the minimum production, only live instruments, microphones and other old-school stuff. Therefore, everything that you hear is the result of the sound searching, which includes the arrangement and setting the drums setup and ending with competent work with plugins. We had a great vintage Yamaha drums and best microphones. For the guitar sound big thanks goes to Fortress Amps, it is a small Moscow company that makes gorgeous sounding amplifiers, cabinets and pedals. But the most important element is our sound producer and sound engineer Andrew Konoplev, he helped us to sound exactly as we want, he organizes the recording process as comfortable and professional as possible.
Besides the release of the EP, are there any other plans for the future?
We prepared live videos for each of new songs from the EP and plan to release them soon. This is a great reason to watch us in action, of course you will see that we are good not only on recording but also live!
Any words for the potential new fans?
Listen high-quality music and go to concerts! We will continue to make music for you!
