LELAHELL’s Redouane Aouameur Talks New Music; Crowdfunding Campaign

As previously reported, Algerian death metallers Lelahell have launched a crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo for the release of their second studio album titled Alif. The band’s founder, guitarist and singer Redouane Aouameur talked with Rocking Charts about the new music, the crowdfunding campaign, and more. With about two weeks left, it’s the right time for you to contribute and help the band in reaching their goal.

What made you go for the name Lelahell? What does it represent?

Lelahel is a zodiac angel; we added an ‘l’ to this name because there is already a rock band with that name.

How do you usually describe your music?

The music of Lelahell is a paradox because it is brutal and melodic in the same time. When you use melodies you decrease the brutality and when you are brutal you use fewer melodies. But in Lelahell we founded the right combination.

What is your writing process like?

We start with making the guitar riffs, and working on the tempos which is a very important part in the writing process. After that I make a preproduction version in my own studio with drum machine and guitar. After that I send the parts to the drummer and we try to find the suitable rhythms.

Who or what is your inspiration, if you have any?

We get our inspirations from our daily life and past experiences in Life.

You wrote a new album and its name is “Alif.” What is the story behind the album title as well as what is the concept of the record?

Each Lelahell release is conceptually linked to the character of Abderrahmane, yet focusing on another evolutionary step—another chapter in his own book. In the lyrics of our first EP “Al Intihar” Abderrahmane is tired of his own life full of constraints, so he commits suicide. Our first album “Al Insane… the (Re)Birth of Aberrahmane” deals with his rebirth. Our new album “Alif” is now focusing on Abderrahmane’s first steps in his new life, just like a child learning to speak, walk, learning about the world around him. Yet this is full of foes and fears, that’s why Abderrahmane needs to save himself from those dangers.

For the purpose of the album release and the recording process, as well as the production, you recently started an Indiegogo campaign. You hope to raise 8000€ in the campaign, so tell me what does this money cover?

The majority of funds needed are intended to help cover the costs of album artwork, production of the album, production of a music video and band merchandise:

1st Goal (Production):4000 euros
 – 1000 euros recording +3000 euros mix and mastering
2nd Goal : 5000 euros (visuals) – lyric video (500 euros) + complete artwork (500 euros)
3rd Goal 7.000 Euros – music video (2000 Euros)
4th Goal 8.000 Euros – merchandising (1000 Euros)

What makes “Alif” different from your debut album?

We have introduced other techniques in the guitar riffs and added more complexity to the drums. Alif has more technical and ethnic influences than our previous album.

What should music lovers expect from “Alif”?

The music lovers should expect something really different than an ordinary Death Metal (or Metal in general) release. A different approach: brutality through (our local) melodies.

What kind of emotions would you like your audience to feel when they listen to your music?

The same when I listen to music that I like: evacuating stress and breathing!

Lelahell live

Which do you like most, life in the studio or on tour?

Don’t have any preferences because when you go on tour on in studio it always helps you to improve your musical skills and you feel yourself more comfortable with your instrument.

Pick your three favourite albums that you would take on a desert island with you.

Hm, very difficult, let’s say: Death “Human”, Slayer “Reign in blood”, Metallica “Master of puppets.”

Any final words?
