Interview: Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson is a young musician hailing from Blytheville in Arkansas. He recently released a debut EP “Full Circle,” which was completely written, recorded and produced by himself. We chatted with Jordan about his introductory release, plans and more.

Hey Jordan. How are you doing?

I have been doing pretty good! Just been playing some drums and living life! Recently got done writing my EP “Full Circle” also so I am super excited about that!

You released “Full Circle” EP recently. How do you feel about the release?

I am super stoked about the release! I love how “Full Circle” sounds and I feel that it delivers a groovy yet progressive metal vibe.

How much of a challenge was to work on the EP?

It was definitely tough to say the least. The drums weren’t hard to do because I know to play the drums, but writing the bass and guitar parts where the hardest since I can’t play them. So what I did is used the amount of music theory I know and MIDI out the notes I wanted to use from the guitar and bass. Nonetheless, I had a great time making the EP!

What other artists similar to your genre that are coming from your area are you friends with?

Well, there isn’t any similar genre near my area that I know of.

What is your opinion about the current progressive metal scene?

I am very impressed with where the prog scene has come. One of things I love about the prog scene right now is the usage of concepts and ideals based around concepts. This is what inspired me to do the concept behind “Full Circle”.

Can you tell me something about your influences?

Sure thing! My influences would have to be Thomas Lang, Alex Rudinger, Jacob Elliott, Luke Holland, Danny Carie, Jay Postones, and Anup Sastry. Now the bands that influence me consist of TesseracT, Monuments, Skyharbor, Animals As Leaders, Tool, Periphery, and The Contortionist. I just love everything about these bands!

What are you listening to these days?

lately I have been jamming out to Atlas by Monuments and Dystopia by Tesseract!

Your 5 favourite records of all the time?

The Amanuensis by Monuments, One by Tesseract, 10,000 days by Tool, Lateralus by Tool, and The Joy Of Motion by Animals As Leaders.

Can you tell me a little bit more about the gear you use to record “Full Circle”?

The DAW’s I used to record “Full Circle” was Cubase 8 and FL Studios 12. The guitar I used was an Ibanez RG8 8-string and the bass was an Ibanez SR305 5-String. My drum kit I used is a PDP-Concept by DW and I use MEINL and Saluda cymbals!

Besides the release of the EP, are there any other plans for the future?

Most definitely! I am actually in the making of writing a full length album! I also have a single coming soon so definitley stay tuned for that! In the near future I will be collaborating with a good friend of mine, who may or may not be featuring on the upcoming single or full album. But, that’s for you guys to find out!

Any words for the potential new fans?

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has listen to “Full Circle” and supported me! If you haven’t heard it already, head over to Bandcamp and check it out. I will be releasing more music very soon so keep a look out!
