Interview: HYAENA

French prog metallers Hyaena are on the verge of releasing their full-length album Existence, which was mixed and mastered by producer Jamie King. We wrote about the album here, and we had an opportunity to ask the band about their work on the album.

Alright, first thing is first. Before we dive into all the music stuff, how’s life?

Bam: Life is good!

Alex: Pretty nice!

Virgile : Good!

Speaking of new music, you have an album out on April 5th. What can people expect from Existence?

Bam: Expect a lot of melodies and dark atmosphere with some technical riffs!

What was it like working on the album?

Alex: That’s a lot of work, hundred hours of work, but it’s a pleasure to do what we love in music.

Chris: I enjoyed a lot working with these guys! Discovering their songs, their killer riffs, building up my drum parts on my own, and the studio session was a lifetime experience! So, yeah, it was great!

Virgile : Lots of work, difficult times but also lot of passion. But I think now we know each other better than ever.

Are there any touring plans in support to Existence?

Bam: We may do a tour at the end of the year! But for now we just have couple of shows!

While we are on the subject of touring, what countries would you love to tour?

Bam: We’d love to tour everywhere but I would love to tour in Japan!

Alex: Personaly I’would love to tour in Japan, Finland, United states!

Chris: Saudi Arabia could be a good fun but I’d rather tour in Japan or USA.

Virgile: Australia and Canada! US too, but I don’t think they’d let me in at the airport.

Who and what inspires you the most?

Bam: Dir En Grey is my biggest inspiration. I grow up listening to them with Tool and lot’s of Japanese bands. That’s why I picked up a guitar at first!

Alex: The Contortionist is a real inspiration, on the guitar, their work mean a lot to me, so much feelings!

Virgile: Tool & Deftones !

What other genres of music do you listen to? Have any of the other genres you listen to had any impact on your playing?

Bam: I listen mainly to progressive music but sometimes I like to listen to some movies soundtracks.

Alex: Many kind of metal, Progressive metalcore mainly. But Pop music, and rock too!

Chris: Some gipsy jazz, or hiphop every now and then.

Virgile: Classic, hip hop and African music.

I really appreciate you giving us your time today. Is there anything else you would like to tell us and the fans before we wrap things up?

Bam: Thanks to all of you reading this and support us, it means the world to us!

Alex: Thanks guys for your support, hope to see you at the shows !
