Swiss metalcore quintet Henriette B will release their new EP titled Tales of Reality on February 20th, and the band will embark on a mini tour promoting the release later this month as well. In the interview below, they tell us about Tales of Reality, but also what are they listening to, metal scene, and more.
Hey folks. How are you doing?
Fine thanks, hope you are doing well too!
You will release your new EP this year. How do you feel about the release?
Really happy and proud of the work we’ve done. The new EP will be released on the 20th February. We will be on the road the week after to promote it in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. We are really looking forward to play the new songs live!
How much of a challenge is to work on the EP?
A big challenge! We all are non-professional musicians, some of us have a family and it takes a lot of time to go through the whole process of composition, pre-production, recording up to the promotion. But it’s definitely worth it!
What other bands similar to your genre that are coming from Switzerland are you friends with?
The metal scene in Switzerland is a small but prolific scene so we almost know every band with a similar genre. But we could say Buried Side (deathcore) with whom we share our singer Ian and Conjonctive (blackened deathcore) an awesome both female and male fronted band!
What is your opinion about the new wave of metal bands?
There are a lot of new bands every day and you have to choose wisely what could interest you. But in the other side, they are always a lot of bands who bring a lot of freshness in the metal scene. We, personally, listen to a lot of music to often discover bands who will inspire us in the future.
Can you tell me something about your influences?
Since 2009 we were, and always are, highly influenced by August Burns Red and Parkway Drive. But lately we were amazed by the last Texas In July’s album, “Bloodwork”. We had the chance to play with them in Zurich during their farewell tour. Great guys and great musicians! It was definitely one of our favorite albums in 2014.
What are you listening to these days?
What is currently on my (Vincent, guitar) iPhone is Unearth/Watchers Of Rule, Veil Of Maya/Matriarch, Texas In July/Bloodork. Otherwise I’m currently listening to a lot of “any-kind-of-death-metal” bands, like Black Crown Initiate, Mors Principum Est, Revocation, Ophidian I, etc. Finally, I’m really looking forward to the next Aversions Crown album, their new song Erebus truly kicks ass.
Your 5 favourite records of all the time?
August Burns Red / Messengers
Texas In July / Bloodwork
Bring Me The Horizon / Sempiternal
Tool / Lateralus
Metallica / Ride The Lightning
Can you tell me a little bit more about the gear you are using to record the new EP?
We recorded/edited the guitars and bass at home with Reaper as MAO and a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 as Audio Interface. We recorded the guitars on a ESP Horizon HRF NT-II and the bass on a Warwick Corvette $$. Then we recorded the drums on a GMS drum and the voice with a Shure SM7B in the studio with Pro Tools. The mix and mastering was done by Atrium Audio in the US, they worked with August Burns Red, Texas In July and many more.
Besides the release of the EP, are there any other plans for the future?
As said we will play in Europe in February and then we will focus on playing in Switzerland during the rest of the year. We are currently working on a tour for the end of the year but we could not say a lot about it for the moment.
